RESULTS Educational Fund (REF), a nonprofit citizens' advocacy organization dedicated to generating the public and political will to end hunger and the worst aspects of poverty, is seeking a Project Associate for its Advocacy to Control Tuberculosis Internationally (ACTION).
ACTION is an international partnership of advocates working to mobilize resources to treat and prevent the spread of TB. ACTION's underlying premise is that more rapid progress can be made against the global TB epidemic by building support for increased public sector funding for effective TB control among key policymakers and opinion leaders in both high TB burden countries and donor countries. ACTION currently works in Australia, Canada, France, India, Japan, Kenya, the U.K., and the U.S.
This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC. Salary and benefits package are competitive and based on experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Project Associate will report directly to the executive director of the organization and will primarily support the executive director's role related to the ACTION project. Incumbent would have the opportunity to be engaged in high-level, strategic discussions and planning, which would be supported through pro-active and detail oriented coordination and execution of the following core responsibilities.
Responsibilities will include:
- Projects and Events Management and Support. Coordination of projects and events across project partners including conference/meeting planning; draft and edit support materials; participate in strategic planning and manage next steps and track progress.
- Communications/Material Development: Developing, contributing to and editing various materials, including update reports to partners and donors about project activities; briefings for meetings, events, and advocacy opportunities; strategy documents and implementation plans for campaign activities; website content; and, high-level partner communications.
- Fundraising Coordination. Support preparation for fundraising related meetings, support donor outreach, research potential new partnerships, drive and track donor engagement and next steps, and fundraising monitoring and evaluation tracking for the organization.
- RESULTS/REF International Affiliate Communications Coordination. Serve as point person for RESULTS international affiliate organizations, coordinate National Director meetings and collaboration, drive collaboration between RESULTS international affiliates around key campaigns, and support executive director in her role as representative for REF (US).
- Administrative/Logistics. Calendar management, external engagement support, coordination and tracking, email management, non-profit and international institutions board seat support, monitoring and evaluation tracking, and logistical and travel support.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience preferred preferably working in a non-profit organization and/or in international advocacy, public policy, public health, etc.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills and ability to communicate effectively.
- Superior organizational skills and techniques and dedication to detail, with experience in managing multiple deadlines and complex assignments.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, as well as independently and collaboratively in a professional manner.
- Willingness to take initiative and do what is necessary to complete the job.
- Demonstrable proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
- Commitment to the mission of the organization.
- Familiarity with global health and foreign aid funding mechanisms desired.

Global Intern — Spring and Summer 2010
RESULTS Educational Fund (REF) is a non-profit citizens' advocacy organization dedicated to generating the public and political will to end the worst aspects of poverty. We are seeking interns to support our global tuberculosis (TB) advocacy campaign, "Advocacy to Control TB Internationally" (ACTION); Education for All campaign; U.S. legislative and policy work; foreign assistance reform; and various other campaign issues. RESULTS utilizes advocacy tools and strategies, communications, and policy advocacy research to mobilize increased financial resources in donor countries and to overcome key policy constraints in developing countries to address and help reverse the burden of diseases of poverty, increase access to education for girls, and reform U.S. policies that impact poverty globally.
This position could be part-time (15-20 hours a week) or full-time (40 hours a week). Candidates who can work full days (9 am to 6 pm) are greatly preferred. Part-time intern candidates must be available on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday or Tuesday-Thursday schedule for full days.
Responsibilities:
- Working directly with senior team staff to support overall project needs.Preparing, updating, reviewing, and editing fact sheets, website content, memos, correspondence, policy briefs, reports, press releases, or other written materials related to the project.
- Assisting research efforts (including literature reviews, data analysis, internet searches, etc.) and supporting the development of briefing materials on U.S. and global policy issues, TB surveillance, education for all, foreign assistance reform, advocacy opportunities, etc.
- Assisting with staff travel arrangements and logistics for events, conferences, and meetings.
- Supporting media efforts, grassroots activities, congressional work, and other activities around advocacy opportunities.
- Supporting U.S. legislative campaign efforts coordinated by legislative and grassroots staff.
- Tracking generated media and maintaining media archive of coverage.
- Providing overall administrative support to staff and overall project needs.
Qualifications:
- Experience and/or interest in advocacy and/or international development/poverty issues.
- At a minimum, a second year undergraduate student, preferably in international development/affairs, public health, political science, communications/journalism, or other related fields. Graduate students will be given preference.
- At least two years of office experience desired, preferably in a non-profit setting on a team-oriented project.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong writing, proofreading, editing, and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail are absolutely necessary.
- Strong knowledge and experience with all Microsoft Office applications.Ability to clearly and effectively articulate ideas.
- A willingness to learn and try new things.Must be personable and able to work well with others
