RESULTS Canada

ACTION is an International Partnership of Civil Society Advocates

ACTION’s mission is to build support for increased resources for effective TB control, especially among key policymakers and other opinion leaders in both high TB burden countries and donor countries.  With effective policy advocacy and greater political will, rapid progress can be made against the global TB epidemic.

RESULTS Canada

Background: RESULTS Canada is part of an international network of volunteers whose purpose is to generate the public and political will to end poverty.

Mission: To provide Canadians with the tools they need to enact change on global poverty issues through the use of media outreach,  advocacy, and community engagement.  RESULTS Canada works to prepare volunteers and staff to effectively convey the message that action needs to be taken on reducing poverty around the world.

RESULTS Canada has been instrumental in working towards ACTION’s goals.

  1. Due in part o RC’s advocacy and education efforts within the Canadian Parliament, Canada’s funding to global tuberculosis control efforts increased by $13.36 million from 2007 to 2008, an increase of 92 percent.
  2. RC was instrumental in the establishment of the first all-party,  non-partisan HIV/AIDS and TB (HAT) Parliamentary Caucus in Canada.  The HAT caucus will be dedicated to developing a better understanding of the needs of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS or TB.
  3. RC’s grassroots actions and advocacy at the highest levels of government helped secure the Canadian International Development Agency’s commitment of $91 million for TB control through the development of the TB Reach Facility.  The TB Reach Facility will make grants to governmental and non-governmental entities to significantly expand TB case detection.
